Weather on La Palma

The weather on La Palma is like springtime all year long….. :) :)

The yearly average temperature is around 20°C and 22°C.

In summertime it’s very rarely more than 30°C, and in wintertime it’s very rarely less than 15°.

The highest temperature at the airport of La Palma was…. 38°C :)

But of course, if I tell you, that here the weather is mostly like springtime, that doesn’t mean that there are no seasons on La Palma. Here we have winter and we have summer….. but it doesn’t make a big different…. In winter there are more rainy-days and more cloudy-days… that’s it!

Geckos on Canary Islands

There live many many Geckos on Canary Islands. And some of theme live with us, in our home. But that’s no problem, Geckos are very nice. And as they are very busy during the night, and sleep during the day….. you very rarely can see them.

I love this little geckos very much, and it is said, that geckos will bring happiness :) :)

Once I had a gecko coming to me (even if they are very shy) to my PC when I was working…. he came nearer and nearer…. and at the end, he was on my arm. That was so nice. Of course it was a very young one, and perhaps he was too young to know that he should be shy…… ;)

Here you can see, how young he was

Isn’t that a very nice picture?

By the way, do you know that the very biggest geckos live in Laos and that they can reach about 40 cm.

The one we have here are, I guess, about 15 cm.

Camping on La Gomera

I have a very good friend on Tenerife and her daughter wants to go to La Gomera, and they would like to stay on a campground.

As much as I know, on La Gomera there is just one campground… but I have heard, that if you go with your tent to another place, that’s also no problem. But never go with your tent inside the nationalpark…. there camping is not allowed :)

La Gomera a nice place to be… of cours a bit quiet…. but nice :) ;)

La Palma and the wild sea

This morning, as always, we went down to the beach, where we always have breakfast in a nice restaurant.

Of course not the breakfast you know…. just a “bocadillo” … something like a sandwich. They come with ham and cheese, with chicken, with meat…..

The sea was very wild this morning…. and what has it brought to us…. rain!!

Yes also here it’s not always sunny and nice… sometimes it’s rainy :(

But I hope, tomorrow the sea is calm…. and the weater sunny ;) ;)

Breakfast on La Palma

When I lived in Switzerland I usually had for breakfast: Bread with butter and jam, sometimes ham and eggs….

But since we live on Canary Islands we had to learn, that breakfast also can be very different. Here for breakfast we have: Orangejuice, Coffee and a Sandwich. The Sandwich is here a “bocadillo” and it comes with ham and cheese, with tuna, with salami or with chicken… which is my favourite one!

Every day we start our day with this kind of breakfast in a restaurant near the beach. Isn’t that great :)

But of course, if you come to La Palma and stay in a hotel, you will have the “normal” breakfast ….. as you are used to. It’s made for tourists.

In Los Cancajos there is also a german baker’s shop, and there you can buy bread and… can get a breakfast with bread and butter and jam, with ham and cheese and eggs….  And sometimes we go there if we feel like a breakfast in the “old” way….. :) :)

If you ever come to La Palma and you feel also like a breakfast there…. go to Los Cancajos. There are also some nice hotels in Los Cancajos…. and a very nice beach too…. So Los Cancajos perhaps is the perfect choice for Holidays on La Palma.

And if you are looking for a nice hotel here, send me an E.mail and I can send you some addresses…. and of course the address of the baker’s shop too :)

I don’t know if this years is very special … I mean the weather. But it’s January and we have sunny all day long, and tourists go to the beach.. stay in the sun, and in the evening some of them look as if they had been too long in the sun :)

They are sunburned …. and I don’t think that’s a good feeling :(

Last year we spent Wintertime on Tenerife, and I can remember the weather was often foggy, cloudy and rainy. And it was cold! We had to wear jackets all the time.

So I’m not sure, if the weather is better this year on every Canary Island, or if the weather is better on La Palma… and Tenerife is in a bad-weather-zone (at least in Wintertime) ….. But why do so much people spend Wintertime on Tenerife? Do they like this foggy weather? Some of these longtermtourists has told us, that the weather on Tenerife used to be better in earlier times, and it turns to be a bit more bad every years… who knows.

But if it is so, I guess, lots of tourist will change her destination… and come to La Palma in the future. :) :) :)

Sangria went for a walk

Last week Sangria went for a walk…. no not with us, he went bei himself :) :)

We were outside the house, Ruedi checked the car (the oil) and I was cleaning the windows (of the car), when another car came … and Sangria followed ….

As you know, we live here in a very quiet area and there are almost no cars coming… but this one car was enough and Sangria was away. Ruedi went looking for him, also with the car, and after a long time, he brought him back :)

We were very happy to get him back.

Sangria lives with us since almost 18 months, we have bought him on Tenerife. And not because we were looking for a dog… no we decided to buy this sweet little labrador-baby … we could not see him in this small cage. It looked so sad. And that was the reason why we took him at home :)

And he was so a nice little dog, when he was young

Would you have left this little labrador in the cage? ;)

Manolos

Who doesn’t know the very famous Manolos? I guess, since “Sex and the city” there is nobody who doesn’t know them. Every woman would like to have a pair of Manolos… or more. But unfortunately they are very expensive … prices starts at about € 500 and go up to…. € 1500. Not really shoes which everybody can afford ;)

And did you know, that Manolo Blahnik has grown up on a plantation with bananas very near to Santa Cruz de La Palma?

Rastro in Argual

Every Sunday there is a Rastro in Argual.

Argual can be found between Los Llanos de Aridane and Tazacorte on the westside of La Palma. The Rastro begins at 9 a.m. und ends at 3 p.m. and you can find it in Argual at the Plaza de Sotomayor.

There are lots of nice little things to buy, par example “Puros” handmade cigars of La Palma. Did you know that Winston Churchill was the most famous client of La Palma Puros.

If you ever come to La Palma, don’t forget to visit the Rastro in Argual on Sunday.

If you ever stay on Gran Canaria you should rent a car, at least for one day. So you can see how different this islands ist.

You will see picture like this

gc-puerto-mogan-008-2.JPG
There are lots of mountains on Gran Canaria… but of course the roads up there are sometimes a bit small …. but it’s worth driving up because you will have a nice view from there.

On the way there are lots of small restaurants where you can rast, sit in the garden and have a coffee or a glas of wine
