View from La Palma

Sometimes we have a view from La Palma to La Gomera. Of course not everyday … but from time to time :)

It looks as if La Gomera is just a few kilometers away …. but by ferry you need about two hours…. and that’s quite not just a few kilometers. And if the sea is wild, it seems to be an endless journey ;)

The last time, we came by ferry from La Gomera to La Palma …. everybody seemed to be seasick … and I was very very happy when we arrived the harbour of  La Palma

El Hierro - La Restinga

La Restinga lies in the south of El Hierro. It’s very popular by tourists, and it is famous especially for diving.

It’s said, that La Restinga should be the best place for diving… but it is also said, that La Restinga is not the best place for beginners :)

Of course there are some diving-clubs here, where all the equipment can be rented, if you don’t have yours with you.

La Restinga is also popular because of the weather… it’s summerly all year round.

So if you plan to visit El Hierro… and if you like diving, La Restinga would be a good choice.

Teide and the snow

I don’t know if this Winter there is also that much snow on the Teide…. but last year there was a lot.

As we lived in a house with Teide-view in La Orotava … we saw it very good

This are pictures from last year

Doesn’t that look great? I wonder if it is this year the same?

Of course some days we also see the Teide from here…. but we definitively can not see if there is any snow

Carnival on Gran Canaria

February is time of Carnival … on Canary Islands.

On Las Palmas the captial city of Gran Canaria it has already begun. The theme this year: “Belle Epoque”.

Some important dates are:

9. February Election of the Carnival Queen

16. February Election of the Drag Queen

17. + 20. February Carnivals Processions

So, in February, there is always something happening … in La Palmas :) :)

If you are on Gran Canaria in this time of the year, don’t miss it, it’s really worth a visit.

The sky over Canary Islands is sometimes so incredible…. I have made some pictures… that I never will forget … and that I can show you who wonderfuel it is when the sun goes down here

Gambas en Ajillo

You can eat here almost everywhere: Gambas en Ajillo (Shrimps with garlic)…. it is very delicious …. I could eat it every day :)

Usually we share one plate as starter. Sometimes the shrimps comes with bread… and sometimes you have to order it extra.

mmmmh…. I become hungry …..

Yesterday I told you, that I do not know if there is any snow on the Teide this year. That we can see the Teide from here… but not see if there is any snow.

And just today… we have such a spectacular view to the Teide, that we even can see there is snow on the Teide this year

Can you see the snow … on the highest mountain of Spain …. the Teide on Tenerife.

It’s incredible, we can see it, even if we are about 83 kilometers away :) :)

Today we are going to Mazo …. Mazo is really near to where we live, and there is a Marketplace each Saturday.

All the fruits and vegetable you can buy there comes from La Palma. So you can be sure, not to buy things from fare away. Which would be silly, if you live on an Island where fruits and vegetable grows year in and year out.

Sometimes there is also a marketstall with mushrooms from La Palma. And I can tell you…. they are very very delicious :)

Another marketstall sells bread, from a german baker. And if we want to buy some bread, it’s important to be at the Marketplace when it opens, because the bread is always very soon sold out.

So I guess, we would be there today at 3 p.m. …. because I would like buying some bread.

There is also a marketstall with german sausages…. and another marketstall with the typical cheese from Canary Islands… the “queso blanco” …. I love them :)

So I think we really should go there today

Sunday on Canary Islands

Sunday on Canary Islands is not the same as Sunday in Switzerland.

In Switzerland nobody works at Sunday …. no shops opens at Sunday. If you have forgotten something, no way to get it. Or almost no way :) ;)

On Canary Islands there are some shops which opens seven days a week, because of the tourists. So if you have forgotten something…. you will always find a shop where you can buy it, even if it is Sunday.

So the feeling of “Sunday” is quite a bit less ….. as lots of people have to work and don’t have a day off.

On Canary Islands, I sometimes don’t know which day is….. as each day is the same like the other day was ;)
